GENERAL

Where is the River Club?

The River Club is 5.7 miles northwest of Morganton, N.C. in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is 3.7 miles from Interstate 40.

How many homesites are there and what is the average size?

There are 35 homesites averaging 2.7 acres each. Over 50% of the land is common area.

What utilities are provided?

Water and underground power are run to each lot and serviced by the city of Glen Alpine and Rutherford Electric respectively. Individual septic systems are required.

Do you have to build a house within a certain time frame?

No. You can choose never to build.

What is the minimum square footage for a home?

One story, 1600 sq. ft. heated; 1 ½ story, 1,800 sq. ft. heated; 2 story and up, 2,000 sq. ft. heated.

Are private barns allowed?

Owners of lots 16, 17, 19, 20, 21, 27 and 28 may build an appropriate structure approved by the Architectural Control Committee.

Who pays for the upkeep of the barn and pastures?

Only those people who board horses pay anything towards the equestrian facilities.

How much are POA dues?

$1,500.00 per year.

What is the weather like?

The temperatures are mild to moderate year round. In January, our coldest month, the high mean temperature is 50°F with a low mean of 27°F. Our warmest month, August, records a high of 87°F and a low mean of 64°F producing one of the most comfortable climates nationwide.

What makes Burke County special?

The area is so beautiful and we have four wonderful seasons. The people here are one of our greatest assets; they are open, honest, welcoming and just plain nice.

ACTIVITIES

Is river access easy?

Yes. We currently have two put-in locations that are both very manageable.

Is the river clean enough to swim in?

Absolutely. These headwaters of the Catawba River come directly from Lake James which is naturally fed by mountain streams.

What are the nearest towns and cities?

The River Club is 10 minutes from Morganton, 30 minutes from Hickory, 50 minutes from Linville (Grandfather Mountain 5,946 feet), 45 minutes from Asheville, and 70 minutes from Charlotte.

What about entertainment and restaurants?

For a small historic town, Morganton has a generous array of dining and entertainment opportunities. Many of Morganton’s restaurants are locally owned featuring authentic international cuisines as well as American favorites with many featuring locally grown organic products.

Morganton is fortunate to have COMMA, our state of the art Municipal Auditorium that hosts off-Broadway productions and major artists. Also, COMMA’s atrium ceiling is home to “Sacred Dances and the Muses” a fresco by infamous artist Benjamin F. Long. The generous size of the ceiling gave Long the opportunity to paint one of the largest frescos of his 30-year career.

Morganton has a number of other events scheduled throughout the year including the Historic Morganton Festival and Friday night music (TGIF) on the courthouse square from May thru July.

How far is it to the grocery store and shopping district?

There is a wonderful grocery store on the west side of Morganton only 3.9 miles from the River Club. Downtown Morganton is only 1 mile further.

Does the Catawba River provide good fishing?

Yes. The River Club is on the headwaters of the Catawba River which provides cool water ideal for trout habitat. With new oxygenating turbines currently being installed below the dam and future consistent water flows, our section of the river is poised to become trophy trout waters.

Are there a lot of recreational opportunities throughout the year?

Indeed. While the River Club boosts great fishing, kayaking, canoeing, walking and horseback riding there are also recreational opportunities close by.

Lake James is about ten minutes from the River Club and encompasses 6800 acres of water for great fishing, powerboat activities, jet skis and swimming.

We are less than 1 hour from a number of snow skiing resorts including Sugar and Beech Mountains. The Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains are also home to some of the best hiking in the Southeast. Mount Mitchell (6,684 ft.) is the highest peak east of the Mississippi River while Grandfather Mountain rises to 5,946 ft. The mountains are also home to a large number of trout streams.
